Five For February - things to do

February may be short, but it’s packed with great reasons to get out and enjoy North County and San Diego. Apart from enjoying the amazing summer-like weather we’ve been having, we compiled a short list of things to do in our community this month. From dog-friendly happy hours to world-class theater, live music, museums, and exciting new restaurant openings, there’s no shortage of inspiration. So get out there, mingle, meet new friends and old neighbors. There is something for everyone.

We at Coast & Laurel five things that are especially worth checking out — whether you’re a local, a part-time resident, or just looking for an excuse to get out and enjoy the community.

🎭 The Recipe at La Jolla Playhouse

You’re sure to be inspired to create some delicious bites after seeing The Recipe!

If you’re anything like us, you can’t get enough of Julia Child. With all the movies, documentaries, and a mini-series celebrating her life, it feels like the perfect moment for La Jolla Playhouse’s newest premiere.

The Recipe tells the story of Julia’s journey from early failures to extraordinary success — and it’s already generating serious buzz. Performances begin in February, but many shows are nearly sold out. Consider this your reminder to purchase tickets now and secure a March date while availability remains. Unless the run is extended, this is one you won’t want to miss.

This one looks especially promising — we can’t wait to go see it.

Laurel Harned’s concert in San Diego this month is a highlight

🎶 From Bach to Bossa Nova: California Tour

Featuring guitarist Laurel Harned
📍 Paper Moon Event Hall, San Diego
🗓 March 14

Sticking with the arts, this concert is a must for music lovers. Laurel Harned’s guitar playing is gaining national recognition for its “unparalleled polish and presence.” Performing on a master-crafted 2005 Andrea Tacchi guitar, she creates an atmosphere filled with deep emotion and dazzling precision.

You can listen to a sample of her talent online, but hearing her play live is something entirely different. Tickets are available here. This might be the event we’re looking most forward to this month.

San Diego Museum Month Is Back

🗓 February 1–28

February is one of our favorite times of the year thanks to San Diego Museum Month. Simply present a Museum Month pass to enjoy 50% off admission at participating venues — including the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) and even Birch Aquarium. Perched above the ocean in La Jolla, MCASD both offer breathtaking coastal views that rival the art inside. Even if modern art isn’t usually your thing, you’re guaranteed to find a few pieces that speak to you. A new exhibit, Art Auction 2026, opens February 5, along with new works on view in the permanent collection galleries.

You can download your free Museum Month pass directly to your phone starting February 1, or pick up a printed pass at any San Diego City or County public library. Museum Month also includes botanical gardens, aquariums, and — for the first time — a great list of participating venues in Tijuana. There’s a wealth of art and culture to explore, and February is a wonderful time of the year to take advantage of it all.

Bacari, new wine bar from LA, coming in February to North Park

A New Wine Bar Lands in North Park: Bacari

Wine lovers, rejoice. The Los Angeles–born, family-owned Mediterranean wine bar Bacari is making its San Diego debut this February — and it’s landing in one of North Park’s most iconic spaces.

Located at 3823 30th Street (formerly Urban Solace), the two-story building features classic New Orleans–style architecture and built-in ambiance. Founded in 2008 by brothers Robert and Danny Kronfli, Bacari is inspired by traditional Venetian wine bars and is known for seasonally rotating, shareable Mediterranean plates, wood-fired pizzas, handmade pastas, and a thoughtfully curated wine list.

You can read more about Bacari’s San Diego expansion here.
